Cliffs has been actively supporting educational institutions in communities where it operates for more than a century. Through partnerships with school districts in Minnesota and Michigan, we present annual awards for student and teacher excellence. The company’s managed mines also support local school districts with grant programs, teacher workshops, and internships that are handled through the partnerships.
Corporate support through the Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation and its mines has helped to fund such building and development projects as the Iron Ore Heritage Ore Trails in Negaunee, Ishpeming and Republic Township; the Iron Industry Museum in Michigan; a laboratory in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Michigan Technological University; the American Steel collection in the Western Reserve Historical Society; Historical Societies in Finland and Schroeder, Minnesota; as well as equipment for the power systems laboratory at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
